Sci-tech exchange and cooperation center for China, Portuguese-speaking countries to be built in Macao, Hengqin

A sci-tech exchange and cooperation center for China and Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs) will be established with two cores in Macao and Hengqin, according to a cooperation agreement signed online on the  16^thmeeting of the Mainland-Macao Science & Technology Cooperation Committee held on December 5.

The agreement was among the Economic and Technological Development Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region, Zhuhai Science and Technology Innovation Bureau, and Economic Development Bureau of Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.

The center also marks the first national platform for sci-tech exchange and technology transfer established by the Ministry of Science and Technology in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, aiming for pooling international high-end resources and pushing forward the diversified development of Macao's economy.

The two cores of the center will be established respectively in Macao and the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.

It is committed to strengthening the transfer and transformation of sci-tech achievements, innovative entrepreneurship and sci-tech cooperation between Chinese mainland and PSCs, thus building the international sci-tech innovation center for the GBA.

According to the construction plan, a comprehensive service system, and a national technology transfer and talent cultivation base will be initially built by 2024 to bring together the sci-tech innovation resources of China and PSCs.

Between 2024 and 2030, the center will work to establish a market-oriented operation mechanism to expand the global scientific and technological partnership network, boosting differentiated and distinctive sci-tech innovation cooperation among Macao, Hengqin and other parts of the mainland.
