First school for Hong Kong and Macao children ready to open in Guangzhou

On July 18th, the Affiliated School of Jinan University for Hong Kong and Macao's Students (ASJ), the first school for Hong Kong and Macao children in China, launched its unveiling ceremony and was opened to the public for the first time.

According to Feng Yan, the school's Principal, 300 students have been enrolled this year, and the school will open in September. Of the students enrolled, those from Hong Kong account for 85%, and the rest are from Macao, Taiwan, and foreign countries. Additional enrollment is accessible from August 1st to 15th. The school will extend the enrollment number to 600 next year.

The school offers 15 years of consistent and high-quality international education for children between 3 to 18. Currently, the school has more than 50 teachers, of which 71% are from Hong Kong and other countries.

When attending the ceremony, Sidney Chan, director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong, expressed his expectation that the school will be a new brand in the Greater Bay Area and attract more talent from Hong Kong, Macao, and foreign countries.

It’s reported that Guangzhou has run 14 schools exclusively for children from Hong Kong and Macao and foreign children. Nine schools in six districts of the city set up 25 classes for Hong Kong and Macao children. More than 18000 primary and secondary school students from the two SARs and Taiwan are currently studying in Guangzhou.
