Leveraging GBA's Strategic Advantages, Guangdong Aims to Build a "Global Living Room" for Culture and Tourism

According to a July 13 post on the official WeChat account of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Guangdong Province, the department, together with the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department, the Department of Natural Resources of Guangdong Province, the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Guangdong Province, the Department of Transport of Guangdong Province, the Health Commission of Guangdong Province, and the Guangdong Administration for Market Regulation, recently jointly issued the Guidelines for Building Tourism-Friendly Cities in Guangdong Province (Trial) (hereinafter referred to as the "Guidelines"), providing a reference for building tourism-friendly cities across the province.

The Guidelines define the construction objectives as follows: leveraging Guangdong's rich mountain and coastal resources, its distinctive cultural heritage of Lingnan, and the strategic advantages of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), it seeks to break down the boundaries between scenic spots and urban spaces, as well as between tourists and local residents. By fostering an environment, culture, business climate, public order, services, inclusiveness, and development model that are all visitor-friendly, the Guidelines aim to facilitate the transformation and upgrading of Guangdong's tourism from "growth driven by visitor numbers" to "growth driven by quality" and from an "overnight economy" to a "retention economy." This goal is to create a new landscape of holistic, tourist-friendly development where "every person becomes part of the scenery, every place offers service, and every moment can be an experience," ultimately positioning Guangdong as a preferred tourism destination, a holiday destination, a top choice for study tours, and a global living room.
