According to the latest data released by the Guangdong Sub-administration of General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC), the combined foreign trade of the nine mainland cities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) recorded rapid growth in the first five months of 2026, accounting for 20.7 percent of China's total foreign trade. The nine mainland GBA cities are Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, and Zhaoqing.
According to customs statistics, the total imports and exports of the nine mainland GBA cities reached 4.28 trillion yuan in the first five months of 2026, up 18.8 percent year on year. Specifically, exports amounted to 2.53 trillion yuan, up 10.7 percent, while imports reached 1.75 trillion yuan, up 32.7 percent.
In terms of imports, the growth rate significantly outpaced that of exports, indicating a robust recovery in domestic demand. Imports of computers and their components reached 254.26 billion yuan, up 49.5 percent year on year. Imports of consumer goods, including edible vegetable oils and beef, increased by 130 percent and 70.9 percent, respectively.
On the export side, the share of high-value-added and innovation-driven products continued to rise. Exports of emerging products such as 3D printers, digital cameras and drones increased by 120 percent, 70.9 percent and 27.6 percent, respectively.
