"Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles" Scheme Extended to June 1, 2031

In May 2023, Guangdong Province released the Regulatory Measures governing Hong Kong motor vehicles entering and exiting the mainland via the Zhuhai highway port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. The measures took effect on June 1, 2023, with a validity period of three years.

Starting from 00:00 on July 1, 2023, eligible Hong Kong vehicle owners have been allowed to drive into Guangdong via the Zhuhai Highway Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge upon obtaining clearance approval through the Hong Kong-side reservation system. Data show that since the implementation of the "Northbound Travel for Macao Vehicles" Scheme and the "Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles" Scheme, the number of Hong Kong and Macao travelers passing through the port has recorded an average annual growth rate of 34%. In 2025, the figure reached nearly 18 million passenger trips. Border inspection authorities estimate that the number of Hong Kong and Macao travelers crossing the port is expected to exceed 20 million passenger trips in 2026.
