The BYD Thailand plant, which took 16 months to construct, has an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles. The facility encompasses processes of stamping, painting, welding, final assembly, and car component production.
BYD also unveiled a Dolphin model car as its 8 millionth new energy vehicle on the same day.
Pimphattra Wichaikul, Minister of Industry in Thailand, said that BYD's investment in Thailand, along with its advanced production technology, will drive the development of the new energy vehicle industry in Thailand and across ASEAN.
Chinese Ambassador to Thailand, Han Zhiqiang, noted that this milestone marks a new chapter in the mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Thailand in the field of new energy vehicles.
"Currently, one in every three electric vehicles sold in Thailand is a BYD. In the future, BYD aims to launch more pure electric and plug-in hybrid models in Thailand," said Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD.
BYD has expanded its presence in overseas markets in recent years. In 2023, it achieved a 337% year-on-year increase in exports, totaling 243,000 vehicles. In the first half of this year, BYD sold 1.607 million new energy vehicles globally, marking a 28% year-on-year increase. BYD has passenger car production bases established in Thailand, Brazil, Hungary, and Uzbekistan.
