Mutual recognition of medical imaging results enhance healthcare access for Macao residents in Hengqin

The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University Hengqin Hospital (referred to as Hengqin Hospital) has recently launched a new model of cross-border healthcare services, including cross-border referral mechanisms, mutual recognition of medical imaging results, and cross-border access to Macao's healthcare benefits. This enables Macao residents to benefit from seamless medical care between Hengqin and Macao.

In May, a Macao resident was referred to the thoracic surgery outpatient clinic of Hengqin Hospital's International Medical Center under this new model. The treatment recognized CT radiology examination results from Macao. Meanwhile, the patient could return to Macao and continue to enjoy the healthcare benefits based on medical documentation.

Currently, Macao residents can bring a digital copy containing results from various radiology exams such as DR, CT, MR, and PET-CT performed at certain local medical institutions to their appointments at Hengqin Hospital. With the hospital's medical imaging cloud platform, doctors can directly access and review these imaging results, reducing the need for repeated examinations.
