On May 26th, Guangdong Intercity got new boosts, with the official opening of the Guangzhou-Foshan South Ring and Foshan-Dongguan Intercity Railways. These two new lines are connected with the existing Dongguan-Huizhou and Foshan-Zhaoqing Intercity Railways, forming a main east-west corridor spanning 258 kilometers from Huizhou to Zhaoqing through Dongguan, Guangzhou, and Foshan. The maximum speed of this corridor is 200 kilometers per hour.
Connection of the four intercity railways offers shorter intervals, more direct trains, and more convenient travel for passengers. Starting from Panyu, Guangzhou, one can reach Foshan and Dongguan in 30 minutes, and arrive in Zhaoqing and Huizhou in 60 minutes.
After the opening of the two intercity railway lines, the intercity railway mileage operated by Guangzhou Metro Group will reach 318.6 kilometers. With Panyu Station as the center, it connects Guangzhou, Foshan, Zhaoqing, Dongguan, and Huizhou, extending westward to the Guangzhou-Zhaoqing Intercity Railway and eastward to the Guangzhou-Huizhou Intercity Railway. This significantly strengthens the transportation links between Guangzhou and surrounding cities and continuously plays the pivotal role of rail transit as a major economic artery. According to the route map, there are a total of 39 stations along the entire line, including 5 in Guangzhou, 9 in Foshan, 6 in Zhaoqing, 12 in Dongguan, and 7 in Huizhou. The maximum operating speed of the trains is 200 kilometers per hour.
