At 15:00 on April 9, the immigration clearance hall for on-board passengers at Hengqin Port started operations. It features 8 fast inspection channels and 3 manual channels for entry and exit, respectively. Operating 24 hours a day, the new clearance hall adopts a "one-stop" convenient model to improve efficiency for customs clearance of on-board passengers.
Since the operation of the clearance hall, vehicles with nine seats or less are allowed to cross the border via the hall. For Chinese citizens aged 70 or above, children aged ten or below, pregnant passengers, and disabled individuals, they can go through customs at the entry and exit lanes without disembarking from the cars. This greatly shortens the distance to take customs clearance compared to the past when they needed to get to the second floor of Hengqin Port.
"I passed through customs very quickly today, and it was great! I used to have to go to the inspection hall on the second floor and then come here. But now the clearance hall for car passengers is located on the first floor. I followed the instructions as soon as I got off the car and came in. The on-site signs are very clear, and I feel it's very convenient," said Ms. Gao, a Macao resident who was the first passenger to pass through customs since the operation of the hall.
Now the average daily customs clearance volume of passenger and truck vehicles at Hengqin Port is about 5,500. Since the trial operation of the one-stop lane for passengers and trucks at the port on September 26 last year, the total customs clearance volume has exceeded 1 million vehicles.
