On March 26th, the mobilization meeting for the construction of the Guangzhou Football Park was successfully held. Once completed, it will cater to international events like the FIFA Club World Cup and the FIFA World Cup, as well as large-scale entertainment activities and extensive fitness-for-all activities. The park is expected to be operational by the end of 2025.

Covering an area of approximately 200,000 square meters, with a total construction area of around 500,000 square meters, the park will include a professional football stadium with 73,000 seats, a sports-themed urban complex, and an outdoor sports park.

In 2022, the Guangzhou City Investment Group (GZCCI GROUP) successfully secured the Guangzhou Football Park project in the open market. In 2023, the comprehensive design and planning of the park were initiated, and the group organized an international competition to optimize the design scheme of the park. After the intense competition of submissions from renowned design firms from the United States, Germany, Beijing, Shanghai, etc., the original design scheme "Ruiyu Jixiang – Shengtai Linglong" with a meaning "auspicious, eco-friendly and delicate" from the Guangdong Provincial Architectural Design & Research Institute was selected for implementation.

Inspired by the "Jade Openwork Disk with Dragon and Phoenix" of the Nanyue Kingdom, the design of the scheme integrates the intangible cultural heritage of ivory carving techniques in Guangzhou. Its delicate form and smooth curves fully showcase the unique charm of Lingnan culture and the competitive spirit of sports. Throughout the construction process, a green philosophy is upheld, with emphasis on energy structure, building energy efficiency, material selection, and operational management. Low-carbon emission reduction technologies are employed, aiming to achieve a three-star rating in the green building evaluation standard and set a new ecological benchmark for sports architecture in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Zhang Wuwei, the deputy general manager of GZCCI GROUP, stated that the construction of the football stadium, which commenced today, was expected to take a year and a half. With a building area of 479,000 square meters, the stadium is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2025. The project aims to create a "football +" health industry demonstration zone, centered around "competitive sports + public sharing", aspiring to build a comprehensive venue covering sports, entertainment, and commercial activities. It will be freely accessible to the public during non-major event periods, providing a larger and more comprehensive space for extensive fitness-for-all activities.

Adjacent to the Guangzhou South Railway Station, which boasts the highest passenger flow in the country, the Guangzhou Football Park is located at the intersection of Guangzhou South Railway Station, Chimelong, and Wanbo business area. With obvious geographical advantages and strong development momentum, it will become a major traffic hub in the Greater Bay Area that integrates sports, cultural tourism, office, and residential functions.
