As the Chinese New Year approaches, traffic in Guangzhou is getting heavier. On February 5th, the 12306 presale ticket data showed that Guangzhou surpassed Beijing for two days straight to become the top tourist destination. In order to ensure the orderly progress of the travel rush, Guangzhou South Railway Station and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (Baiyun Airport) have taken multiple measures.

All parking lots at Baiyun Airport are open to ride-hailing

Currently, except for the parking garage P4 under construction, Baiyun Airport has a total of seven parking areas from P1 to P8, providing 8,760 parking spaces for travelers.

"At present, all parking lots at Baiyun Airport are open to ride-hailing services so that passengers who prefer ride-hailing can go to any parking lot nearby. In addition, at Baiyun Airport, pick-up points for ride-hailing services have been established on the basement floor of P3, the basement floor, and the third floor of P8, facilitating passengers to quickly board ride-hailing vehicles," said Tao Ran, Manager of the Planning and Development Department at the Public Area Management Branch of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Co., Ltd. Furthermore, Baiyun Airport provides passengers with a 24-hour shuttle bus service between the two Terminals and parking garages, and the shuttle frequency will be adjusted according to the actual situation of the flight.

In terms of taxi services, Baiyun Airport collaborates closely with the Guangzhou Municipal Transportation Bureau to ensure sufficient taxi capacity throughout the Chinese New Year. For the Guangzhou Metro, on February 9th (Chinese New Year's Eve), the service time of the entire network will be extended by 1.5 hours, and from February 6th to 8th and from February 15th to 17th, the service time of the north extension of line 3 will be extended by one hour.

During the holiday, Baiyun Airport, in keeping with tradition, will continue to enhance the festive experience for travelers. On Chinese New Year's Eve, complimentary dumplings will be offered to passengers in the terminals, and on the Lantern Festival, free tangyuan (sweet dumplings) will be provided. The airport's Chinese restaurants within the terminals will also host special events offering dumplings and tangyuan, adding a touch of warmth to the festive journeys of passengers.

Guangzhou South Railway Station: additional service windows will be provided if needed

Guangzhou South Railway Station anticipates a total of 23.03 million passengers arriving and departing during the entire Chinese New Year travel rush, a year-on-year increase of 22.5%. Among them, the peak for departing passengers is expected to exceed 388,000 passengers on February 7th, while the peak for passengers arriving at the station is anticipated to reach over 409,000 passengers on February 17th.

On February 5th, due to freezing rain and snow in the Hubei Province, Guangzhou South Railway Station temporarily suspended 18 train services, with some trains experiencing delays.

Zhong Bingchao, the secretary of the Party general branch committee of Passenger Transport Workshop 2 at Guangzhou South Railway Station, mentioned that in response to this situation, Guangzhou South Railway Station has made contingency plans in advance. "In the event of widespread delays, we will open additional ticket refund and change windows to meet passengers' needs, deploy extra staff to organize passenger boarding and alighting for delayed trains, and provide emergency supplies such as food as needed. Simultaneously, we are committed to enhancing communication and coordination with relevant departments, including delayed trains, local commissions, subway, automobiles, taxis, and buses," Zhong Bingchao said.

Furthermore, facing the increasing passenger flow, Guangzhou South Railway Station will add trains during peak hours and nighttime high-speed trains. The maximum operation of regular trains can reach 575 pairs, and the station starts operation in advance to alleviate the passenger flow in the morning rush hour. Further optimizations will be made based on actual conditions.

In terms of passenger flow evacuation, during rush hour, Guangzhou South Railway Station will maximize the use of 72 real-name verification channels in the east and west regions, and expand security check channels to 50. Additionally, Guangzhou South Railway Station has added 32 intelligent integrated security check counters this year, enabling rapid and intelligent management of carry-on items that are prohibited or restricted. Eight free mobile charging stations have been added in waiting rooms and transfer areas, and two temporary left-luggage offices have been set up near the east and west entrances on the first floor.
