Several "second-tier" channels in the Guangdong-Macao In-depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, including Hengqin Bridge, Hengqin Tunnel, and Shenjing Passage, are scheduled to start comprehensive operational testing from February 1, 2024, according to a recent notice issued by the Economic Development Bureau of the Cooperation Zone.

Currently, there are seven customs surveillance zones in five "second-tier" channels, located at Hengqin Bridge, Hengqin Tunnel, Shenjing Passage, Hengqin Wharf, Hengqin North Station on the Guangzhou-Zhuhai Urban Rail Extension Line, as well as Hengqin Station and Zhuhai Changlong Station. Another customs surveillance zone is under construction in the south of Shizimen Tunnel.

It is worth noting that in the "second-tier" channels, Customs will inspect the goods that travelers bring with them when leaving the Zone. According to the regulations, when travelers (excluding non-resident travelers) carry goods with a value of no more than 8,000 RMB (including 8,000 RMB) and enter the Chinese mainland via the "second-tier" channels from the Zone, their goods will be released duty-free by Customs. Non-resident travelers will still have to comply with the existing regulations on imported goods.
