On January 29, the Pearl River Delta water resources allocation project began providing water. This is the world's largest long-distance water diversion project with a total length of 113.2 kilometers. The water transmission line starts from Shunde's Liyuzhou of the Xijiang River in the west, crosses the Shiziyang Sea, and ends at Gongming Reservoir in Shenzhen in the east. The total investment of the project is approximately 35.4 billion yuan, with an annual water supply volume of 1.708 billion cubic meters, including 531 million cubic meters in Guangzhou, 330 million cubic meters in Dongguan, and 847 million cubic meters in Shenzhen.

After the project is launched, it will provide emergency backup water sources for Hong Kong, Panyu District of Guangzhou, Shunde District of Foshan, and other places, return ecological water to the Dongjiang Basin, and protect the water supply and ecology of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
