Rail, civil aviation passenger flow in Guangdong during Spring Festival travel rush expected to break records

A Spring Festival special program was held in the waiting hall of Guangzhou Baiyun Station on January 24,. Representatives from various departments of transportation of Guangdong shared frontline information about Guangdong's Spring Festival travel rush.

"It is expected that the number of passengers sent by Guangdong Province will reach 127 million during the Spring Festival travel rush, an increase of about 25% compared with 2023. Road, railway, civil aviation, and water transportation will all increase significantly compared with previous years," introduced Yang Xu, deputy director of the Department of Transport of Guangdong Province. "The passenger flow transported by railways, civil aviation, and water transport will increase, while the proportion of road passenger transport will decrease compared with previous years."

In the huge huge passenger flow, Guangdong Province is well prepared. "We have increased connections to ensure traffic at various hubs. For example, we have added bus lines at important transportation hubs such as Guangzhou South Railway Station and the airport, and also extended subway service hours," said Yang Xu.

"Guangzhou Baiyun Station is expected to transport 600,000 passengers before the Spring Festival, with an average of 40,000 passengers per day. During the Spring Festival travel period, 103 regular trains and 14 temporary passenger trains will be operated. An additional 20 night electric multiple unit (EMU) trains will be operated to Wuhan, Zhengzhou, Xiangyang, Xinyang and other directions," said Peng Xiang,chief engineer of Passenger Transport Department of China Railway Guangzhou Bureau Group Co., Ltd.
"Guangzhou Railway Group is expected to transport 72.5 million passengers, an increase of 33.2% over the same period last year and 116.8% in the same period in 2019.," added Peng Xiang.

"In the 40 days of Spring Festival travel, Guangzhou Baiyun Airport is expected to send 60,400 flights and handle 9.1987 million passengers, an increase of 10.74% and 10.24% respectively compared with 2019," said Pan Jian, assistant to the general manager of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport Co., Ltd. “Guangdong Civil Aviation's passenger flow during the Spring Festival travel season this year is very likely to set a new record.
