In recent years, Guangdong has implemented the policy of "dominance of the manufacturing industry" and has promoted new industrialization. In 2023, the revenues of industrial enterprises above designated size in Guangdong exceeded 18 trillion yuan, ranking first in the country.

Zhang Jinsong, director general of the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province, said that in 2023, Guangdong's actual utilization of foreign investment in the manufacturing industry reached 49.22 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 11.7%, accounting for 30.9% of the province's total actual foreign investment and reaching a nearly five-year high.

Last year, 1,078 foreign-invested enterprises in the manufacturing industry were newly established in the province, a year-on-year increase of 29.9%, Zhang revealed that.

Guo Yuehua, deputy director of Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission, said that Guangdong has promoted the construction of new energy storage power stations and released a list of 30 new energy storage opportunities for major application scenarios, covering the fields of lithium-ion, sodium-ion, solid-state batteries, and flywheel energy storage.

Tu Gaokun, director general of the Department of Industry and Information Technology of Guangdong Province, said that high-tech manufacturing and advanced manufacturing accounted for 29.4% and 55.7% of the added value of industries above designated size respectively in 2023. Seven new provincial manufacturing innovation centers (out of a total of 40) were added last year, covering the fields of laser and additive manufacturing, green petrochemicals, and humanoid robots for the first time.

Wang Yueqin, director general of the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, said that in 2023, the number of high-tech enterprises in Guangdong is estimated to exceed 75,000, ranking first in the country for eight consecutive years. In the past five years, the R&D expenditure of high-tech enterprises has increased by 15.8% annually, and the number of invention patents has increased by 18.5% annually.
