According to the railway authorities, the number of cross-border trains operated by the Railway has increased from an initial average of 77 per day to the current average of 190 per day. This enables Hong Kong residents to travel directly to more than 30 cities in the Chinese mainland, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xiamen, Changsha, and Wuhan. During the Christmas holiday in 2023 and the New Year holiday in 2024, the railway authorities added 22 high-speed trains per day for round trips between Shenzhen and Hong Kong, resulting in an average of over 200 trains per day.
