A total of 202 companies have so far been put on the Guangzhou Unicorn Innovative Companies List, hitting a new high. The results were unveiled at the 2023 Discovering Guangzhou's Unicorns Award Ceremony during the 2023 Guangzhou International Innovation Festival from December 18 to 20.
Thirty-three enterprises were rated as Unicorn Innovative Companies in 2023, an increase of 43% over last year. Among these companies, two are super unicorns which are valued at over $10 billion USD: SHEIN and GAC AION. Over the past seven years, 49 companies have been acknowledged as Unicorn Innovative Companies, 25 of which have been listed on stock exchanges at home or abroad.
The companies on the list are mainly engaged in the fields of information technology, biomedicine, advanced manufacturing and artificial intelligence, including Zhijing Technology, Quwan, and XPENG AEROHT. There are 41 bio-pharmaceutical enterprises on the list, such as VectorBuilder and PackGene Biotech, accounting for over 20% of the total.
A total of 155 high-tech companies made their way onto the list, representing 76.73% of the total, and 21 of the 33 unicorn innovative companies belong to this category as well, with each owning more than 307 intellectual property rights and 70.71 invention patents on average.
Among the 105 future unicorn companies, 81 are high-tech enterprises, with more than 128 intellectual property rights by each on average. Among the 64 seeded unicorn companies, 51 are high-tech enterprises, with each owning about 30 intellectual property rights on average. Nine companies have more than 100 invention patents respectively, and WeRide leads the number of invention patents by owing over 500.
The 2023 Discovering Guangzhou's Unicorns Award Ceremony was guided by the Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, co-hosted by the Guangzhou Industrial Development Research Institute, the Guangzhou Association of Science and Technology Innovation Enterprises, and PwC.
