The one million-kilowatt offshore wind farm in Huizhou Port, built by China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN), was fully connected to the grid on December 12. With an annual power generation capacity of approximately three billion kilowatt-hours, this marks the completion of the first million-kilowatt offshore wind farm in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

The construction of the wind farm is divided into two phases, with a total of 104 offshore wind turbines installed. The Phase I project of 250,0000-kilowatt started main offshore construction on December 13, 2020, and concluded on December 28, 2021, while Phase II, a 750,000-kilowatt project, started on March 15, 2023, and put into operation on December 12, 2023.

According to Li Guangming, the President and Executive Director of CNG New Energy Holdings Co., Ltd., "CGN has invested nearly 15 billion RMB in the renewable energy industry in Huizhou, further building Huizhou into a new growth pole on the eastern bank of the Pearl River and being a key part of high-quality development in the GBA."

Gao Ligang, General Manager of CGN, introduced that the offshore wind farm can provide approximately three billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity to Guangdong Province every year, equivalent to reducing coal consumption by about one million tons and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 2.35 million tons, equivalent to planting trees on 6,750 hectares of land. This wind farm will contribute to the economic and social development of the GBA and the implementation of the nation's "dual carbon" goal while supplying clean energy.

As one of the earliest energy companies in the offshore wind power industry in China, CGN has already put into operation a total of 2.8 million kilowatts of offshore wind farms in Guangdong, including Yangjiang, Huizhou, Shanwei, and other cities.
