Former PM of Belgium and other 5 masters eye on China’s Greater Bay Area

“It was a bold step to go for reform and opening up. What strikes me is that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) manages to be world-class leading as other bay areas such as the San Francisco Bay Area from world's factory in 2 to 3 decades,” said Yves Leterme, Former Prime Minister of Belgium at the Master Talks on China's Greater Bay Area.

The event was held by GDToday and China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy (CIIDS) as a side-event of the 2023 Understanding China Conference in Guangzhou on December 1, aiming to facilitate exchange of global wisdom on the GBA which is an economically dynamic to drive future growth in China.

Apart from Leterme, Neil Bush, Chairman of the George H. W. Bush Foundation for U.S.-China Relations, Mushahid Hussain Sayed, Chairman of the Pakistan Senate Defense Committee and Pakistan-China Institute, Li Cheng, Founding Director of Centre on Contemporary China and the World of University of Hong Kong, Martin Jacques, Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University and Vikram Channa Naraya, Vice President of Production and Development of Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific participated in the event and shared their insights into the Area's development trends, international partnership and governance strategies.

To facilitate the exchanges with global experts, GDToday and CIIDS launched a joint project, the Master Tour to China's Greater Bay Area, at the event. Both sides will provide participants customized tours to the GBA cities based on their different research focuses and sectors of interest, arrange exchanges with universities, research institutions and major Guangdong enterprises, aiming to build new connections.

International students of the Guangdong University of Foreign Studies were also invited to communicate with the guest speakers.
