Highlights updated on upcoming 2023 Understanding China Conference in Guangzhou

The 2023 Understanding China Conference will be held in Guangzhou from December 1 to 3, 2023, according to a press conference on November 27.

Xu Weixin, Chairman of the China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy, introduced that 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the Understanding China Conference, which has developed into a major platform for the world to gain insight into China's development strategies.

She furthered that this year's theme is "China's new endeavors and unprecedented: Expanding the convergence of interests and building a community with a shared future". We have invited well-known politicians, strategists, scholars, entrepreneurs, and diplomatic envoys from home and abroad, as well as representatives of international organizations and multinational companies."

Shi Ling, Vice President of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs, said, "Participants come from more than 30 countries and regions. More than 70 international guests have confirmed attendance at the conference, including six former political leaders at the level of deputy prime minister or above from Ethiopia, Austria, Egypt, Vanuatu, Belgium, and Thailand."

Zhu Xiaoyi, Deputy Secretary-General of Guangzhou Municipal People's Government, said, "As the host, Guangzhou will hold a series of book exhibitions, intangible cultural heritage experience exhibitions, and drone performances to fully demonstrate the city as the millennium commercial capital."

The three-day conference includes speeches, seminars, closed-door seminars, and a series of side activities, shedding light on topics such as the Belt and Road Initiative, artificial intelligence, digital economy, new energy, international cooperation, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Recently, Chinese President Xi Jinping called on China and the United States to adopt a new vision and build together five pillars for bilateral relations that China and the United States should jointly develop. At the closed-door session, Chinese and foreign experts will have in-depth exchanges on strategic, overarching, and directional issues, and give suggestions for a comprehensive understanding of China-US relations.
