“I have to share China’s experience in the disposal of garbage with the people in Pacific Island countries, so that they can learn more about China’s updated ways of environmental protection,” said Fresh Air Liliani Vea Polutele, the Senior Press of Tonga Broadcasting Commission, in a visit to Nanshan Energy Ecological Park in Shenzhen.

On November 13, a press delegation from Pacific Island Countries embarked on a tour to Shenzhen, one of the destinations of GD&U Media Pacific Island Countries Media Group Tour in Guangdong.

At the Qianhai Exhibition Hall, the delegation deepened their understanding of how the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone transformed itself from a small fishing village into a global economic powerhouse in just over 40 years.

“The planning of the infrastructure in Shenzhen impresses me the most,” said Michael Harry John Siaki, a Production and Video Editor of 2AP Broadcast. “I would love to come back in the next 10 years to witness the new developments in Shenzhen.”

“Further to the south of the sea is Hong Kong, and further to the south of Hong Kong is the Pacific Islands. Guangdong and the Pacific Islands countries are connected by oceans instead of being separated by them,” Rong Yi, Deputy-Director of Guangdong People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, introduced to the press delegation at Nanshan Energy Ecological Park, which is located next to Mawan Port.

Shenzhen Energy Environment Co., Ltd., to which Nanshan Energy Ecological Park belongs, is a specialized company in solid waste disposal. They have the ability to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 393,815 tons per year. Additionally, they dispose of domestic waste, equivalent to saving 126,400 tons of standard coal annually, as stated by the company's data.

“From the visit to Nanshan Energy Ecological Park, I can see that China has really put an effort to prioritize a green, clean environment and clean oceans as well,” said Sariah Magaoa, a Reporter for the Broadcasting Corporation of Niue. “It’s really interesting to see how waste is reproduced and used in a very useful and good way for the environment and people. ”
