On November 12, China's first high-energy inelastic neutron scattering spectrometer was unveiled at the Dongguan-based China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS).

Expected to be put into use in 2024, it is a collaboration between Sun Yat-sen University and CSNS. This is the first inelastic neutron scattering time-of-flight spectrometer in China, with a self-developed domestic Fermi chopper.

The instrument fills the gap in the field of high-energy inelastic neutron scattering in China and is a very unique "microscope" to further reveal cutting-edge scientific issues such as high-temperature superconductivity and thermoelectric mechanisms.

Bombarding the sample with neutrons at a specific speed can reflect the characteristics of the material on the basis of understanding the microstructure and correlation. It can provide strong support for physics, chemistry, materials, mechanics and interdisciplinary research.

After the spectrometer is opened to the public, it will serve the world's scientific and technological frontiers and China's national strategic needs.
