Guangzhou's Liwan District recently held a groundbreaking ceremony for a route connecting both Guangzhou Railway Station and Guangzhou South Railway Station. When the construction is finished, the public can reach Hong Kong West Kowloon Station within one hour from Guangzhou Railway Station, strengthening Guangzhou's function as a transportation hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

The route passes through the Nanhai District of Foshan, Liwan District and Panyu District of Guangzhou. The route is 16.077 kilometres long overall, with 1.093 kilometres of bridges and 13.21 kilometres of tunnels making up 88.97% of that distance. The design speed is 200 kilometres per hour, with the construction expected to take four years.

The route connects the main stations and railways, including Beijing-Guangzhou Railway, Beijing-Guangzhou High-Speed Railway, Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Railway, Guiyang-Guangzhou High-Speed Railway, Nanning-Guangzhou High-Speed Railway, Guangzhou-Shantou High-Speed Railway, Guangzhou-Zhuhai Intercity Railway and Guangzhou-Foshan-Zhaoqing Intercity Railway.
