"This is my first time to enjoy lotus in Hengqin. The lotus festival here holds colorful activities, and I plan to come with my family to Hengqin next time," said Ruan Dawei, a Macao resident, told GDToday when he was viewing the flowers at Hengqin's lotus festival.
The first lotus festival in Hengqin concluded on June 18. Lasting for ten days, the event attracted tens of thousands of tourists and local residents to appreciate nearly 28 kinds of lotus flowers. At present, the lotuses are still in full blossom, welcoming you to enjoy the flowers.
During the festival, visitors from The Women's General Association of Macau, Pui Va Middle School and middle schools in Zhuhai came to the lotus garden to appreciate the flowers.
Meanwhile, a total of 10 research activities were carried out, including lotus-themed flower arrangement, story-telling session and experience of planting lotuses. Through the experts' explanation, visitors learned more about the growth characteristics, history, culture and breeding of the lotus flowers.
In addition, the photography competition held during the lotus festival invited visitors to capture the lotus-inspired landscape of Hengqin.
The festival also set up booths to popularize scientific knowledge, leading the visitors to explore practical knowledge about lotuses and ecological protection through experts' explanations, physical displays and games.
