Hengqin joins hands with Sichuan to promote TCM to the world

From May 15 to 20, the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Co-operation between Guangdong and Macao in Hengqin (GMTCM Park) joined hands with Sichuan and carried out a series of exchange events in Spain and Portugal, focusing on TCM-related treatment, culture and education.

The delegation conducted a TCM-themed tour in Spain's capital Madrid, providing free services such as consultation, preliminary screening, diagnosis, and general treatment for common and chronic diseases to the local residents, and popularizing medical common senses at the same time.

Additionally, they also paid visits to the Acupuncturists Without Borders in Portugal, the Portuguese School of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the University of Lisbon, looking for a closer glimpse into the legislation, practice, and education of TCM in Portugal.

In recent years, the GMTCM Park has established three major international business sectors, namely, international registration, international trade, and international education and training with Portuguese-speaking countries as the focus. Meanwhile, it has also set up an international cooperation network connecting Portuguese-speaking countries, nations from EU, ASEAN, South America to build a professional public service platform for the internationalization of TCM.

To date, a total of 10 products made by companies of the GMTCM Park and those in Macao, have been registered and listed in Mozambique. In the meantime, nine products have obtained registration and listing permits for TCM in Brazil, seven of which have entered the local market for sale.

The GMTCM Park has also built a TCM practitioners exchange base and launched its first overseas project named AMIGO Partner Camp. It worked with ten TCM universities from countries including Portugal, Mozambique and Cape Verde to form an alliance for TCM international exchange. The alliance helps promote international cooperation and resource sharing of TCM through regular seminars and reciprocal visits.

Up to now, the GMTCM Park has carried out 34 online and offline exchange events at home and abroad. These events attracted a total of more than 4,000 participants to attend, including TCM doctors, pharmacists, university teachers and students from Macao, Hengqin and Portuguese-speaking countries.
