Shenzhen will build 13 Metro lines running 226.8 kilometers in the Phase V construction period between 2023 and 2028, according to an environment impact report released Saturday by the Shenzhen Municipal Development and Reform Commission on its official website.

The work includes the completion of Line 15, Phase I of Lines 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 25, 27, 29 and 32 and Phase II of Line 20, the eastern extension of Line 10 (Shenzhen Section) and the northern extension of Line 11 (Shenzhen Section).

The bidding results for Lines 15 and 17 and Phase II of Line 20 have been released to seek public opinion at http://ygp.gdzwfw.gov.cn, the Guangdong Provincial Public Resources Exchanges and Trade Platform.

The environment impact report shows Line 15 will link Shenzhen Hi-Tech Industrial Park in Nanshan District, Bao’an CBD, Houhai and Qianhai areas; the 28.7-km Line 17 will link Luohu CBD with Buji, Nanwan and Pinghu areas in Longgang; and Line 20 will connect Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone, Chegongmiao, Xiangmihu, Hi-Tech Park, Xin’an, Airport Hub, Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center and Ocean New Town.

The Phase I of Line 20 was put into operation in December last year, connecting Airport North Station and Convention & Exhibition City Station.

Sources from Shenzhen Metro Group, the operator, said four lines of Phase IV, Lines 12, 14 and 16 and the spur line of Line 6, will be put into operation before the end of this year, bringing the total length of the Shenzhen Metro network to 547 kilometers. With the operation of the four new lines scheduled before the year-end, the operator also unveiled the new scheme that calculates fares for 5,166 possible trips (entry/exit stations) based on two principles, the shortest distance and the lowest cost. There will be price drops of 1-5 yuan (US$0.14-0.72) for 6.19% of the total possible trips.

Shenzhen Metro Group is currently upgrading 12,000 ticketing devices including the code system, facial recognition and AI services. All the Phase IV lines will provide facial recognition systems at turnstiles.
