The cargo route via Delhi in India, operated by Germany-based AeroLogic, a company jointly funded by German cargo airline Lufthansa Cargo and Germany-based global logistics giant DHL, will have six flights a week.

Leipzig’s Harley Airport is one of DHL’s three global air cargo transfer hubs. From the airport, products from Shenzhen, such as electronic products, high-tech apparatus, auto spare parts and bio-products, could reach 15 European countries within eight hours via trucks. The cargo route’s operation is expected to promote trade between South China and Europe.

The Shenzhen airport now operates 56 cargo routes including 35 international routes.

“Leipzig is our global logistics hub, and we regard Shenzhen as an important market. We are confident with the opening of the cargo route,” DHL’s SZXGTW Gateway Director Yang Mei said at an interview.

At present, DHL operates about 30 flights a week departing from the Shenzhen airport and will open more cargo routes based on market demand.

The number of cargo flights to Europe, including those to major hubs such as Frankfurt and Paris, will be increased to 36 flights a week with the operation of the new route to Leipzig, data from the Shenzhen airport showed.

In another development, a batch of cargoes departed from Dachan Bay Port to Germany’s Hamburg Port on April 9, inaugurating a sea freight route between the two ports.

The operator, Hapag Lloyd Container Lines Co. Ltd., has deployed eight vessels for the China-Germany express (CGX) service that links the Pearl River Delta market with Central and Eastern European markets through multiple transportation modes. The vessel calls at Dachan Bay Port every Friday, and each trip to Germany takes about 27 days.

“We are glad to have strategic cooperation with Hapag Lloyd. The CGX route enriches our shipping network in Europe and offers competitive service for our clients engaging in China and Europe businesses,” said Yang Zicong, managing director of Dachan Bay Port.
