Other institutions in Guangdong are also eye-catching on this year’s list. Shenzhen University (37), Guangzhou University (29), South China Agricultural University (21), Guangdong University of Technology (19) and Southern Medical University (14) have all achieved double-digit entrants on the ranking this year.

What lies behind all the achievements of all the institutions in Guangdong is the support of all aspects from the government. Back in 2015, earlier than the rest regions of the country, Guangdong government started its construction of high-level universities and provided a boost of science and technology universities, aiming at establishing key academic subjects with unique features and accelerating the development of higher education in Guangdong as a whole.

In 2021, the 14thFive-year Plan of Guangdong province reasserted its determination and commitment of supporting the construction of major academic subjects, subjects with specialties and advantages, as well as the infrastructure and building of large equipment of the emerging interdisciplinary subjects, all against the “Double first-class”standard. By deepening the“Promotion of universities with features”, Guangdong looks forward to adding one or two more institutions to the national“Double first-class”list.
