153.4 bln yuan to promote coordinated development of Guangdong’s urban, rural areas

A meeting in Guangdong province promoting "The High-Quality Development Project for Guangdong's Counties, Towns, and Villages" was held on Nov. 27th. In 2024, the total provincial project-related investment is expected to reach 153.4 billion yuan to foster coordinated urban and rural regional development.

Huang Kunming, the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, pointed out that next year is a crucial time for achieving the three-year goals. It is essential to grasp industry as the foundation, adhere to characteristic development, and promote integrated development. With county towns as the carrier, the ability to attract people, merchants, and industries should be continuously enhanced.

After 15 research groups conducted comprehensive and in-depth studies in cities of Eastern, Western, and Northern Guangdong, as well as in the Pearl River Delta area, representatives from Huizhou, Shanwei, and Qingyuan, along with various departments and sectors, made thematic reports.

Lu Feng, Secretary of the Shanwei Municipal Committee, shared the experience of Shanwei City in developing the marine industry. "We have introduced 19 new marine wind power projects with an investment of over 50 billion yuan," he said. The city has built landmark projects such as the CGN wind-fishery integrated floating platform and introduced the first Sino-foreign cooperative land-based salmon breeding base in the province.

This year, over 110 incubators were jointly built, and plans were made for the construction of 11 national advantageous and characteristic industrial clusters, 22 national modern agricultural industrial parks, 84 national strong agricultural towns, and a number of provincial modern agricultural industrial parks.

All fields participated deeply, and the new assistance mechanism was continuously improved. Four enterprises have partnered with 15 prefecture-level cities in eastern, western, and northern Guangdong, 98 counties, and 556 towns for joint construction, planning 3,173 joint construction projects.

From education and medical assistance perspectives, 138 colleges and universities were mobilized to pair up with 86 counties, and 73 top-tier hospitals formed groups to assist 60 counties and 113 county-level hospitals in eastern, western, and northern Guangdong.

Boluo County in Huizhou and Sihui City in Zhaoqing have been successfully listed among the top 100 counties in the country. Seventeen districts are among the top 100 districts in the country, and the number of top 100 districts in Guangdong ranks first in the nation.

Guangdong proposed the implementation of the "High-Quality Development Project for Hundreds of Counties, Thousands of Towns, and Myriads of Villages" to address the unbalanced and insufficient development between urban and rural areas at the end of 2022.
