New immersed tube embedded for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link on December 15

On December 15, the E15 immersed tube of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan cross-sea Link was embedded after 24.5 hours of undocking. Now the Link has installed 19 immersed tubes with the total length reaching over 2929 meters, and it has completed 58.2% of the immersed tube construction tasks (5035 meters in total).

The 24-kilometer link connecting the cities of Shenzhen and Zhongshan will play an essential role in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The Shenzhen-Zhongshan cross-sea link will open to traffic in 2024 to cut travel time between the two cities from two hours to 30 minutes.

The undersea tunnel of the Link is about 6.8 kilometers long, with a length of about 5 kilometers of 32 immersed tubes. It is the widest steel-shell concrete undersea immersed tube tunnel in the world. This latest tube to be laid, the E15 immersed tube, is 165 meters long, 65 meters wide, 10.6 meters high, and weighs about 80,000 tons.
