The Shenzhen-Bangalore cargo route, operated by United Parcel Service, Inc., was inaugurated recently, becoming the fifth international cargo route that has been opened at Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport this year.

The route’s operation brought the number of cargo destinations from the Shenzhen airport to other world cities to 34. Around 370 cargo flights take off and land at the airport weekly, underpinning the city’s trade and economic development, according to a release from the airport Thursday.

The flight to Bangalore operates five times a week and it is the third cargo flight from Shenzhen to India. With the new route in operation, cargoes sent to India every week will be increased from 190 tons to more than 500 tons. Bangalore in southern India is the country’s high-tech center and a gateway for Shenzhen enterprises to export high-tech products to India and the South Asian markets. After arriving in Bangalore, the flight will fly to Koln in Germany, helping Shenzhen enterprises expand to the European markets.

So far this year, the Shenzhen airport has opened cargo routes to Hanoi, Doha, Leipzig, New York and Bangalore, and intensified flights to eight world cities including Los Angeles, Ho Chi Minh City, Osaka, Seoul and Istanbul.

By the end of July, the airport had handled a total of 443,000 tons of international cargoes, up by 21.6% year on year, data from the airport authority showed.
