Major railway projects passing Zhuhai being advanced

The initial section of the Zhuhai-Zhaoqing High-speed Railway has started pile foundation construction, Zhuhai Transport Bureau officials recently announced while discussing the construction progress of Zhuhai's major projects as of June 30.

The Zhuhai-Zhaoqing High-speed Railway starts from Zhuhai's Hezhou area and ends in Zhaoqing via Jiangmen and Foshan. With a designed speed limit of 350 km/h (217 mph), the railway will provide convenient services for areas on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary to reach the Guiyang-Guangzhou High-speed Railway.

By now, work on an 884-m (967-yd) part in the Zhuhai section of the Zhuhai-Zhaoqing High-speed Railway has started, which covers Xiaotuo Grand Bridge and Wazilao Tunnel. Construction on the entrance and exit of the tunnel, as well as pile foundation of the bridge have begun.

In addition, preliminary design of the railway's Zhuhai-Jiangmen section is expected to be completed in July, while more sections alongside the railway will start construction in the third quarter.

Besides, schematic studies on the 23-km (14-mile) Hezhou-Hengqin section of Guangzhou-Zhuhai (Macao) High-Speed Railway is currently progressing. with a designed speed limit of 350 km/h, the high-speed railway will connect areas like Guangzhou, Nansha district, Zhongshan before reaching Hengqin Checkpoint. Of note, these two high-speed railways will both connect at Zhuhai (Hezhou) Hub Station.

Preliminary-stage research is also underway for the Zhuhai (Tangjiawan)-Jiangmen (Doushan) Intercity MRT, while the Zhuhai (Hezhou) Hub Station-Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport section of the Guangzhou-Foshan-Jiangmen-Zhuhai Intercity MRT has won approval from the Guangdong Provincial Development & Reform Commission.
