Guangdong strives to build more than 3 national medical centers by 2025

In 2025, the average life expectancy in Guangdong will have exceeded 79 years old, and per 1,000 population will have had 5.5 nursing places for infants, according to Zhu Hong, Director-General of the Health Commission of Guangdong Province.

Zhu Hong announced that during the "13th Five-Year Plan" period (2016-2020), the average life expectancy of Guangdong residents increased from 77.1 in 2015 to 78.4 years old. The maternal mortality rate decreased from 11.56/100,000 to 10.18/100,000, and the infant mortality rate decreased from 2.64‰ to 100,000. 2.13‰. The health level and residents' quality of life have been continuously improving.

During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Guangdong health authority has put forward 1 overall goal and 20 development indicators.

The overall goal is: by 2025, the construction of “A Healthy Guangdong” will have achieved remarkable results, the development of medical care and health services will have maintained an advanced level in the nation, and the main health indicators of residents will have reached the average level of high-income countries.

The 20 development indicators cover four categories: health level, healthy life, health service, and health security.

Among them, the average life expectancy exceeds 79 years old, the maternal mortality rate is controlled below 8/100,000, the infant mortality rate is controlled below 3‰, and the mortality rate of children under 5 years old is controlled below 4‰.

Premature mortality rate from major chronic diseases is controlled within 10% or less, and the health literacy rate of residents increases to more than 30%.

The proportion of the number of national health cities continues to increase, the number of infants nursing places under the age of 3 per 1,000 population reaches 5.5, and the proportion of personal health expenditure in health spending total shall be controlled at 25%.

By 2025, Guangdong will have striven to build more than 3 national medical centers, 15 national regional medical centers, 3 national-level medical quality control centers. It will also build about 5 provincial-level regional medical centers, and select about 630 provincial-level key clinical specialties. The province will have created several multidisciplinary collaborative diagnosis and treatment centers, and developed 30 specialized municipal-level regional medical centers.

In addition, Guangdong will build enhanced Biosafety Level 2 laboratories in six cities: Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Shantou, Shaoguan, and Zhanjiang. Meanwhile, a batch of CDCs in east, west and north Guangdong will be built into provincial public testing laboratories. Cities where conditions permit are encouraged to build key public health laboratories.
