On October 15, the first ASEAN-China International Forum on Innovation Cooperation kicked off in Shenzhen. On the theme of “RCEP and ASEAN (Singapore) - China International Cooperation: Digital Economy and Smart Cities”, the forum aimed to help explore the potential of cooperation and actively expand the space for cooperation.

“This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations, and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (RCEP) is about to come into effect. It’s the right time and of great importance to hold this forum in Shenzhen,” Loh Tuck Keat, CG of Singapore in Guangzhou said in his speech.

This year also marks the 31st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Singapore. “Over the past three decades, the two countries have successfully implemented a series of regional urban development and economic model projects such as Suzhou Industrial Park and Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City. Meanwhile, development of key projects of the two countries keeps moving forward, including China-Singapore (Chongqing) Demonstration Initiative on Strategic Connectivity, Singapore-China (Shenzhen) Smart City Initiative, China-Singapore Guangzhou Knowledge City.” said Teo Eng Cheong, Chief Executive Officer of Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City Investment & Development Co., Ltd. (SSTEC), and former CEO of International Enterprise Singapore.

“ASEAN has become China’s largest trading partner and is playing an increasingly important role in the 'Belt and Road' Initiative and 'Dual Circulation' development strategies. This year, Shenzhen University has set up the Center for ASEAN-Greater Bay Area Studies, based on the existing research conducted by the Singapore Research Center over more than a decade,” said Li Qingquan, President of Shenzhen University.

This forum focused on topics including Digital Economy and Digital Currency, Smart Cities and Connectivity, Industrial Parks and International Cooperation, the Changing World and ASEAN-China Strategic Cooperation, RCEP as well as ASEAN-Greater Bay Area International Cooperation.
Nearly 200 people from political, academic and business fields attended this forum which was organized by Shenzhen University, Tsinghua University, and co-organized by Nanyang Technological University along with China Guangdong High-Tech Industry Chamber of Commerce.
The Center for ASEAN-Greater Bay Area Studies focuses on academic research in the political, economic, and commercial fields of ASEAN countries, the relationship between the Greater Bay Area and ASEAN, as well as applied research in the fields of international relations, government dialogue, industry and technology cooperation.
