China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Guangdong held a conference on September 24th in Guangzhou to promote business opportunities in Georgia and Guangdong amid the further development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Fang Lixu, President of CCPIT Guangdong, mentioned that there was huge potential for Georgia and Guangdong to deepen cooperation because the economies of these two places were highly complementary. “Seizing the opportunity brought by the Belt and Road Initiative, a wider, higher-level and deeper economic and trade cooperation will be further promoted in the following four aspects. For starters, a logistics center and railway hub will be jointly built by two sides for enhancing the development of cross-border e-commerce, overseas warehouses and bonded logistics”, said Fang while addressing the conference. He also stressed that Guangdong will give more support to enterprises from the GBA to join hands with Georgia in the development of transportation infrastructure, communications, electricity, smart cities and the digital economy. According to Fang, Guangdong will also strengthen cooperation with Georgia in tourism, culture, education, technology and other sectors.

Archil Kalandia, Georgia Ambassador to China, gave a brief introduction about favorable investment environment of Georgia and highlighted the significance for strengthening economic and trade ties with the GBA. “GBA plays a significant role in China’s foreign trade, so Georgia will highlight more on the cooperation with GBA,” Kalandia noted.
