Macao university adds medical unit to Renmin Hospital

The Macau University of Science & Technology (MUST) opened its First Affiliated Hospital of the Faculty of Medicine on Sept 11 with a plaque unveiling at Zhuhai Renmin (People's) Hospital in Old Xiangzhou.

The new facility at Renmin Hospital Medical Treatment Group on Kangning Road will share high-quality Zhuhai-Macao medical resources and be used for medical treatment, teaching, and research. It is to provide accessible and high-level healthcare services to Greater Bay Area residents under the Healthy China strategy for healthy life, optimized health service, improved health protection, healthy environment, and healthy industry by 2030.

An agreement was signed between MUST and the Zhuhai Municipal People's Government in May 2019 to cooperate in many fields including quality medical research, medicine, and the health industry. At the time the university said it "looks forward to cooperate with Zhuhai to set up a high-quality medical institute with international influence and a medical development platform for Zhuhai and Macao in relevant fields."

In addition to the hospital, a Zhuhai-Macao international medical center is planned to boost the health industry in the Greater Bay Area.
