Self-driving bus to be trialled in 6 areas of Guangzhou

Guangzhou has just approved a self-driving trial project, proposing that self-driving bus will be trialled in 6 areas of Guangzhou. It will be the largest operational project of intelligent connected vehicles in China.

As stated in the project, 50 self-driving buses will be distributed to 6 routes, respectively running in Zhujiang New Town, Pazhou Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy Laboratory, Canton Tower, Yuzhu Software CBD, International Bio-medical Park (in Huangpu District), and Tianhe Software Park.

A series of standards and assessments will be set to ensure safety, and meanwhile, well-trained safety officers will be in the vehicle to inspect the driving situation. Part of the plan is that the accident rate of self-driving buses will be 90% lower than that of traditional buses.

The project is currently in the bidding period, and will be started after a comprehensive evaluation of road conditions.
