A total of 110 university students from Hong Kong and Macao ended their internships on Friday in the Nansha district of Guangzhou, Guangdong province, on Friday.

Eight of them have signed official employment contracts with to work in the district, indicating that Nansha, located at the mouth of the Pearl River, has become one of the major destinations for students from Hong Kong and Macao to start business and work, Nansha authorities said.

"After working as interns in local government departments, organizations, a State-owned company, joint ventures and foreign-funded companies in Nansha district for six weeks, the students have a greater understanding of the development of the mainland and greater ability to pursue their dreams of starting a business and working in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area," authorities said.

Nansha, home to one of Guangdong's three pilot trade zones, started offering internship opportunities to students from Hong Kong and Macao in 2015 and has so far attracted more than 2,000 of them to work as interns.

The goal is to encourage more young talent from Hong Kong and Macao to work or to start businesses in the district in the future.

The interns have not only enhanced their understanding of the cooperation between Guangdong and Hong Kong and the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area but have also accumulated social work experience and have realized self-improvement through the six-week internships in previous years, authorities said.
