Starting March 1, travelers entering Guangdong Province from Hong Kong will be required to present COVID-19 nucleic acid test reports with samples done by nasopharyngeal or nasal-oropharyngeal swabs, the Shenzhen Municipal Office of Port of Entry and Exit announced Wednesday.

The announcement was made after consultations between the Guangdong Provincial Government and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government.

The specimen collection for children under 6 years old is mainly oropharyngeal swabs.

If travelers present their test reports without the specified sampling methods, border authorities will not accept the documents and the travelers will be sent back to Hong Kong.

Nucleic acid tests should be done at the medical testing institutions recognized by the Guangdong and HKSAR governments, according to the notice.

The office also said that according to the Guangdong government’s arrangements, travelers who head to Huizhou and Shanwei via Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint will be picked up by the city of destination to undergo isolation for medical observation at government-designated venues in these cities. The new arrangement became effective Tuesday.

Those who travel to Shenzhen or cities outside Guangdong Province or other 18 cities in Guangdong (excluding Huizhou and Shanwei) will undergo isolation for medical observation at the government-designated venues in Shenzhen or Dongguan. They will not go through home isolation in the destination cities.
