More than 150 representatives of NZ enterprises and business associations as well as Guangdong enterprises in NZ participated in the seminar, and discussed the ways to seize the opportunities, attract investment and establish the communication channels between enterprises in the GBA and New Zealand.

The seminar was jointly organized by the New Zealand China Trade Association, the Canton Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand, Hong Kong New Zealand Business Association, and the North Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence.

2022 marks the 50thanniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and New Zealand while the Protocol to upgrade the China-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement came into force in April. Fan Xinlin, vice president of CCPIT Guangdong Committee, highlighted that the Protocol is expected to further investment and trade between the two countries.

Lim Mei Yee, director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Sydney), emphasized the vast business potential in the Greater Bay Area, saying that “the GBA is one of the most ambitious development projects to date. The collection of Hong Kong, Macao, and the nine cities in southern China is an emerging cluster-city development integrating 86 million consumers and a GDP worth about 1.7 trillion USD in 2020. It is also home to many tech giants with highly vibrant tech industry.”

According to Zhang Yun, executive president of the Canton Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand, the members of Canton Chamber of Commerce in New Zealand have expanded to include more than 100 members over the past 8 years. He said the Chamber would help NZ enterprises to seize opportunities in the GBA.

Martin Thomson, chairman of New Zealand China Trade Association, said the GBA is one of the fast-growing regions in China. “Since China’s economy and the demands of New Zealand’s products are growing, cooperation with China becomes more important for New Zealand and it’s also expected to ease the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on New Zealand's economy.”
