Zhuhai, Macao sci-tech institutes form close relationship

Zhuhai College of Science & Technology (ZCST) and Macau University of Science & Technology (MUST) agreed Nov 14 to cooperate in disciplines, mutually recognize credits, and exchange personnel.

The agreement also is to generate postgraduate and young teacher training, teacher-student projects, and help coordinate development of the two institutions. ZCST, formerly Zhuhai College of Jilin University, is located in Jinwan District whereas MUST is situated in Taipa of Macao.

ZCST is to introduce high-quality overseas educational resources through MUST. By organizing exchange, training, visiting, and research programs, ZCST wants to broaden the international vision of faculty and students, improve professional skills of teaching and management staff, and enhance overall international education at the college.

ZCST and MUST are full of youth and vitality and have distinctive educational characteristics, said MUST president Lee Hun-wei. He said they complement each other in terms of geographical resources and degree programs. Under the national development strategy, he cited potential to utilize flexible school-running mechanisms and promote in-depth cooperation

It is a prime time for two institutions in core areas of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to come together amid accelerated construction of the Greater Bay Area and deepened Zhuhai-Macao cooperation, noted ZCST Party secretary Liao Liguo. Education will be improved both in Zhuhai and Macao, he added.

MUST is a private institution that was founded in 2000 and is the largest comprehensive university in Macao. It ranked among the top 300 universities in the "World University Rankings" for three consecutive years (2020-22) and placed 32nd at the Asia University Rankings.

ZCST is also a private institution that was ranked second among private universities in China this year and first among its peers in December 2019 for the sixth consecutive year. ZCST led the list of competitiveness among 271 independent colleges nationwide in 2016 and 2017. It has been promoting MUST's master recommendation program for 13 consecutive years, and 271 ZCST graduates have been admitted to the program so far.
